My Trans Am is done at the shop! Sure I'm $450 poorer but now she is all buffed and has a new aluminum radiator held in with a custom bracket waiting for me to install my electric fans! I pick her up later today. The decals guy has recovered from his stroke and the car goes to his shop over the weekend (after which I will be another $300 poorer). All that is left after that is done is to buy a new exhaust system (probably $500). I'll be so poor but my car will be so awesome.

What kind of radiator did you go with?
![]() 10/09/2014 at 15:24 |

A generic 4 core aluminum radiator. It's bound to be better than my original old broken one.

Don't spend $500 on an exhaust. Sheesh
$450 is good for a radiator install.
It cost me 275 to put a full exhaust on my Cutlass. It shouldn't be much more unless you buy new headers

Radiator, buffing, and a respray of a fender. http://pypesexhaust.com/i-12200945-70-…

You don't need a bird on the hood.

But I want it. I've had the decal set for a couple years waiting to go on.

That's what I have in my Beetle.

... which is air cooled?

ah, okay then. By the way have you ever seen a 78 T/A dash without the combo oil/water gauge? Or maybe a temp gauge that's mounted under the dash?

Pype Sex Haust. That, and you should go with the Violators.

There were never gauges below the dash. Never seen a Trans Am like that. The only cars I've seen with no oil/water combo are base model firebirds like the dash in the pic. If the car in the picture was more of a stripper model it wouldn't even have the two air vents for air con cars only. Also note there is no tach, only a gauge pod thing.. Are you looking at a Trans Am? I can probably give you more info if I see pics or something.

Why that muffler?

I'm at college right now, so I'm running off my memory for this. Was there ever a stand alone oil pressure gauge? I don't think the temp gauge part of the combo gauge in my dad's T/A works or is it for a different temperature reading?

Well, they do describe it as the loudest. Flowmaster Super 10s would be good too.

I have some Super 40s and cutouts for it in my garage.

No. I've never heard about a stand alone oil gauge. The temp gauge in mine doesn't work either (no idea why, I've looked at the entire wiring harness for that thing).

That makes much more sense than my suggestion.

I think it be because its mechanical temp gauge, requiring a temp probe in the engine block...
![]() 10/09/2014 at 16:26 |

There is a sensor thing that screws into the cylinder head and which is connected to the gauge in the car.

I thought it was the block? is it the head?

Mine is in my drivers side head... I think. Not 100% sure since I haven't seen the thing car in over 2 months.

IIRC the one mine is on the driver's side as well somewhere on the engine.

Hmm. So what is your question you're trying to answer?
![]() 10/09/2014 at 16:48 |

weather or not there was an independent temp gauge or not.
![]() 10/09/2014 at 16:50 |

I have never seen a temp gauge that wasn't part of the oil gauge or in place of the tach.

I'll need to look when I get home. Maybe there really is a combo gauge and I'm really not remembering the car the right way.

you are having a guy who just recovered from s stroke install very expensive trans am stickers on your car?

Yep!

Um well... the normal gauge looks like this:

A shop should be able to bend you a set of pipes for that cost.
The problem is finding a good exhaust shop
